Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “ıvır zıvır sindirilebilirler”) teşhismlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine rabıtalanmasıyla oluşan kısaltarak polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız lakırtııntısı ile ötekisi arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok nüshada polipeptit madun birimi çitndırır). Yapı taşı ayırt peptitlerin kısaltarak, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino hamız, özge amino asite kesiksiz, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle rabıtalanır. Polipeptid mimarisına tıkızlan amino asitlerin her biri mimariya peptid rabıtalarıyla rabıtalanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir kez çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Yaklaşık bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, ortalama 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine tıkızlan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, erkin amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin özge ucundaki erkin α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıya C ucu adı verilir.
